This is general infomation thred about the FSX default Jetways.

To make the new Pure FSX coded version of the Xtreme range it has been necessary to use the FSX default Jetway. My older but better looking jetways are all FS9 coded and I cant yet make an FSX version that reacts with the Ctrl+J key

So user have to put up with the default jetway. Unfortunately this jetway does not work well, not sure why ACES made a jetway like this, but here are the known problems (found using FSX SP2, not sure if its just SP2)

1) Alignment to the aircrafts body is not very good, and in general its 10-30% out, the variation depends on the angle to the pier.

2) Vertical alignment is not good with the CRJ, Im wondering there is any vertical alignment

3) with AI aircraft the jet spins the worng way, so the legs rotate up into the air.

4) its not going to work with FS9 imported aircraft unless you edit the aircraft.cfg and convert it to FSX usage.

There is really nothing we can do about these problems as the Jetway is hard coded into FSX. If you a Jetway fan, then I suggest sticking with the old FSX version of the product that uses my FS9 jetway

It is all to do with the cfg file of the ai aircraft (and user aircraft as well). The settings used by the jetway are in a section labelled [Exits], and should give the lateral vertical and displacement measurements of the exit that the jetway will align with in relation to the aircraft reference point. If these references are either missing or wrong then the jetway will either not move at all or will not align. There is, however, a problem with all aircraft that is down to the actual modelling of the jetways. When the jetway extends the concertina section, that attaches to the door, does not align at right angles to the aircraft and so you get this slicing into the fuselage effect.

In order for the jetways to extend for ai aircraft they must park within a limited trigger area at the gate; if not then the jetway will not extend. Not all ai park exactly on the spot, so with some the jetways may never work. With user aircraft they will work when the keypress ctrl/j is used, provided the aircraft cfg file is correct, as shown above,

Why can't you just make static jetways, like you did with the terminal?

I'd prefer jetways which look like the real thing and don't move.. but that's just my opinion I guess.

Take offs are optional. Landings are mandatory.

It doesn't bother me either way really. Yea I like the moving jetways but sometimes I feel its just eye candy where its really not needed.

So if we decide to stick with static it doesnt bother me.

Might Do a poll later when I can to get people's views

In my opinion ctrl+j jetways are alright in small airports, but not large ones like Heathrow. I mean what would you prefer, a long line of grey things or a long line of gates which look like the real thing but don't move?

The FSX jetways look wrong in your scenery Gary, they are too American or some thing.  Your own jetways, static or moving, thats the way to go.    Probably save your some time also.  I hate the fact that nothings simple with FSX, nothing seems to work without problems.

I agree with the posts above here. I would rather have the real looking static jetways...than the false looking moving ones. Since most of the jetways in the UK (and i think in many airports abroad ) have sponsorship on them it looks more realistic, which at the end of the day is the ultimate goal of any scenery designer.

I do now have the ability to make True FSX replacement Jetways, that are true to the real airport (see Birmingham). These will be added in future updates for the other airports.
