Author Topic: EGKK Free Rogue Jetways ?  (Read 2675 times)

Hello all.

I am an owner of EGKK Xtreme, but wanted to give the FREE version a shot, as London tends to be a bit demanding, even by default, at least on my prehistoric machine.

I'm really pleased with this level of detail. For me it is the perfect balance, and I thank you Mr. Summons for offering this version.

I did notice one little issue, illustrated below. Any ideas ? I see there should be a terminal extension there, and if it was decided that it would be removed, would it be possible to also remove these jetways as well ?

Hi Brian,

Do you still have Gatwick Xtreme installed. if so I suspect that you are getting these jetways from that scenery. Make sure that the Gatwick Xtreme scenery is de-selected in the scenery library.

You can only have 1 Gatwick in the scenery library active.

Well, I used the included tool to deactivate the scenery first, then removed the Gatwick Xtreme folder in it's entirety.

Is there a piece that I am missing ?

Did you uninstall Gatwick Xtreme with the uninstall program or just delete the folder?

Norman,

Originally, I used the configuration tool to disable it, then manually deleted the folder (but did not empty the recycle bin).

When that didn't work, I restored the folder from the recycle bin, then used Add/Remove programs to uninstall completely.

I can confirm that there is no scenery.cfg reference to Gatwick anywhere else than Gatwick FREE, and that the Gatwick Xtreme folder was completely removed from the UK2000 scenery folder by the uninstall process.

Having said all that, I think I have narrowed it down to the included EGKK_SMALLPARTS.BGL, with a size of 678K, dated 05 March, 2008.

Removing this file removes all jetways (among other things), including the 3 in the shot above.

Found something else, but before you take a look, please understand that I am not trying to pick apart any little detail I come across. If you are too busy to fix these small issues, and with a free release to boot, I certainly understand. I just figure it can't hurt to point them out.

Hi Brian,

Don't worry about pointing out inconsistencies, that's how we all get better. The last shot of your looks as though it should have a default jetway. I can't identify the stand from the picture, can you post the number?

Norman,

My apologies, this is an FS9 installation.

Ah, the default jetways only show in the FSX version. Those in the FS0 version are Gary's models, so its back to him again.

Thanks for your assistance at any rate, Norman.

I just earlier reinstalled Xtreme to see, if maybe I could make a liveable go of it again, and, FPS were back down into the low teens from the PMDG flightdeck, whereas the Free version held a steady 24. Those 8-10 FPS really are worth it IMHO, especially while using a machine that is easily outclassed by a scientific calculator.

Sure, much is sacrificed this way, but, it still has the feel of a UK2000 product, so I'm happy as could be.

Thank you both for your attention, and Gary, if you find time to do a bit of tweaking, great, but if not, I am still grateful for the option.

Best to all.

Problems fix, those gates removed, and the floating attachment on the north term removed.

If you are getting low teens from the PMDG then you are doing well. I usually get about 11 to 12, but this is quite smooth enough for flying.

Gary,

Thanks so much. All is well now.

Norman,

Maybe, but, the minute FPS drop so low as to be felt individually, I stop enjoying the sim.

This is certainly no criticism of Gary's product, it is certainly my machine, which still has to manufacture each frame by hand, which of course takes time.  Cry

It will be nice to fly into Gatwick now, without afterwards wanting to throw the whole lot from the second story window.  Grin

EDIT: Gary, just so you know, for the sake of your bandwidth, it seems you actually have both the 1.0 and 1.1  installers included in the newest zip.
