Thanks George but technicals like 'root' don't tell me much but I checked the C\FS9 folder I set up & I see scenery is there.  There - another learning experience!    I had a screen freeze this evening so I thought I'd take Norman's advice so I'll run FS for a few days before I start adding things.    The device manager said the graphics drivers are up to date after I downloaded new ones on the advice of a blue screen error message that appeared after I started up this evening.   I didn;t see what happened as I was not at the wretched machine.

Norman & George:  I put FS9 in C/FS9 but both it & FSX crash after 5 minutes producing a  striped blue screen & stuttering noises from the speakers.  I have to switch off manually as the machine is locked.
Sometimers I've had messages on a blue WARNING screen that said ATI Graphics drivers are the problem.  I think this is a manufacturing fault & nothing to do with software like AWD-IT say so I'm retuning it to them in the morning.
Cheers,
Terry.

Hi Terry,

Returning the system to the supplier to check may be the best option. However, there has been a lot of bother caused by graphic drivers recently, both Radion and nVidia.

Thanks Norman,  My graphics card is ATI, but what gets me is 3 or 4 minutes after starting either FS it crashes, & also I can't install your scenery in FS9.    AWD-IT just say it's the FS software that's not good enough for Vista 64bit but you run it OK!   I'm going to tell them if it doesn't work I want my money back.  Thankfully I still have the Dell!!   If the drivers are to blame them AWD-IT can sort it.  They're the experts not me.   I'll let you know what happens.

Well, Terry, you can tell them that many of us run FSX on Vista 64 with a great many addons and have no troubles at all (apart from the graphic drivers).
