Yep, though I've not been able to do anything on it during the last few weeks, I've been on holiday and now I'm back I have various things that need my attention, as well as exam results in a few weeks. Still intend to get this done and will try and get bits done when I can.

hi david,
Texture mapping in gmax can also be done by using uvw unwrap.Uvw mapping is okay if all the sides are the same bitmap. If you are texturing a building with different textures you need to use uvw unwrap,it is much easier and more accurate.I use 2048 x 2048 bitmaps if the building has more than 4 sides so the textures are easier to fit on the bitmap. To create a long building say 100m and to texture it you need to resize the bitmap not the gmax building. You start with your building whatever shape(if it is complex i prefer to do it as one building)you want to make it.Size the building before you texture.Apply the texture to your model make sure you also put your night texture on at the same time. Now select uvw unwrap.Click on the select face under the uvw unwrap, click the face you want to texture and click the planar button.Nothing will have seemed to happen but it has recorded the texture for that face.Do the same for each face you need to texture with the bitmap for that model. You can create all the sides if you place your textures on one bitmap that is why i use 2048 size bitmaps for larger buildings.NOTE only one texture map can be used for one model you cannot use two different bitmaps so all your textures MUST be on one bitmap.you can use other bitmaps but you must create a new model for each different bitmap. If the building is the same size you can clone the building and give it a different texture.OK. we have now placed the texture on our model. We now click the EDIT button as we need to place the texture in its correct position. From the screenshot you can see the positioning box.In the top right there is an arrow which will give you a rollout PICK TEXTURE.Select pick texture this will give you the gmax navigator to allow you to bring your assigned texture into the box for editing.I usually create a new folder inside the gamepack folder of gmax and place all the bitmaps for the project so they are easier to find.Click on the bitmap box this wll open the window to find the bitmap you have placed on your model.Select the bitmap and press open and there you have the bitmap for editing. You can now place the texture in the correct position.TIP.If you place the textures up to the edge of the bitmap you can pull the edit line off the edge of the bitmap the bitmap will repeat to keep the scale correct.HOPE THIS IS USEFULL if you have any more questions on gmax i will be glad to help
regards

Thanks for that Stewart, that's very helpful Smiley

I've had a chaotic few weeks, just moved into Uni, so will get back to this as soon as I can.

Hi David,

Just checked out your scenery even though the post is quite old lol... looks great nevertheless... you still going at this scenery? would be a shame to see a good project go away  Huh

Cheers
