Coming back to FSX after a break, I've become confused (well, more confused than usual  Huh) about the various AFCAD files that have accumulated. I have all the latest xtreme versions, plus the 2 VFR Sceneries, and their  AFCADS. I also have a folder UK2000_High_Position with AFCADs originating (I think) from the old FS2004 VFR sceneries, which I've inactivated (the sceneries, not the AFCADs) as they don't work well with FSX. But in that folder are two AFCADs for each airfield  -  one with the format EGxx_afx_UK2hi.bgl and the other with the format FSX_afh_EGxx.bgl.   At a quick glance, these seem identical, viewed on the ADE utility. There are some 'MAX' versions in both formats.

Can someone remind me why there are/were 2 formats? The UK2000_High_Position folder is situated below the newer sceneries and so it doesn't (or shouldn't, anyway) interfere with them, but I keep them there and active as they sometimes are a good fit with the FSX default airfields, north of VFR Vol2. If not a good fit, I either delete them or tweak them.

Looking forward to the remaining VFR Volumes, though!

Hi Brian,

Forget the folder UK2000_High_Position completey; delete it I mean, as that was only a temporary item made so that when FSX was introduced users could still have airfields at some of the parts locations. That has been superseded a long time ago and now all the UK2000 products have the appropriate AFD files included in the scenery folders. With all FSX and FS9 products the AFD files are automatically selected when you activate the options screen, although updated files are still published from time to time.

Norman

edit: to be honest I had forgotten that that folder was still in the AFCAD Library. I have now deleted it.

OK, thanks Norman  -  it's what I suspected. Though, as I said, maybe I could use the AFCADs from the non-VFR1&2 areas as the basis for an improvement on the default ones as a temporary measure.

And, judging from the news, we should now be deleting our Globespan AI Traffic files..... Undecided

Hi Brian,

You may well be able to use the default as an improvement on the part three airports for the time being. Just remember to include an esxclude otherwise you may get default towers and other structures on the taxiways etc.

Yep, FlyGlobespan is no more and it makes you wonder who will be next. BA???
